Loyalty: a lesson from the Prophet ﷺ and his companions

One of the beautiful qualities we learn from the Seerah of the Prophet ﷺ and the Sahaba r.a. is loyalty. Their unwavering dedication to Allah, His Prophet ﷺ, their loved ones, and Islam is a powerful example for us to follow.

It’s amazing how the Prophet ﷺ treated those around him. When any of the companions would pass away, he would ensure that their families would be taken care of and received the necessary support.

A beautiful example of loyalty is the relationship between the Prophet ﷺ and his wife, al-Sayyidah Khadijah r.a. When the Prophet ﷺ received his first revelation, he was shaken and unsure of what was happening. It was Khadijah r.a. who stood by him, offering comfort and reassurance. She was loyal to him, and he ﷺ was loyal to her, even after her passing.

Years later, her necklace was presented to the Prophet ﷺ. Just the sight of the necklace moved him to tears, reminding him of the cherished moments they shared together. In the narration of Sahih al-Bukhari, the Prophet ﷺ described her by saying, “She was – she just was,” as in there are no words to describe her.

In a world that increasingly emphasizes individualism and a ‘What’s in it for me?’ mindset, loyalty and selflessness are essential qualities we must nurture and develop.

May Allah make us people who are loyal to Him, His Prophet ﷺ, our families, our loved ones, and the Ummah of Muhammad ﷺ.
